Many individuals can experience symptoms associated with painful and traumatic circumstances. Anxiety, fear, and hopelessness are a few emotions that can linger after traumatic events. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of therapy which guides clients in adaptively reprocessing traumatic events and/or negative schemas. We are proud to offer EMDR in our practice as well as virtually. Click here to learn more about EMDR or visit EMDRIA.org.
Our Social Understanding Groups are influenced by the evidenced-based UCLA program PEERS®. The primary focus of our program is increasing each teen’s self-confidence as well as their understanding of social interactions rather than learning prescribed social skills. This focus promotes autonomy as well as the ability to make an intentional choice when socializing rather than complying with social rules and/or masking. Each group incorporates the themes of self-advocacy, self-regulation, perspective-taking, boundaries, and problem-solving skills into the lesson. This group may be appropriate for teens with Autism, ADHD, Anxiety, & Depression. Parent participation is required for the 10 week group.
Amy has undergone specialized training from Yale University in order to provide an evidence-based treatment for children with anxiety, OCD, and related disorders. SPACE (Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions) is a parent-based treatment program. Parents learn skills and tools to help their child overcome anxiety or OCD by making changes to their own behavior, including responding more supportively to their child and reducing accommodations made to the child's symptoms. Children do not need to attend the SPACE sessions.
Developed by Dr. Eli Leibowitz at the Yale Child Study Center, SPACE can be use to effectively treat separation anxiety, social anxiety, generalized anxiety, fears and phobias, panic disorder, agoraphobia, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. Upon successful completion of the SPACE treatment, children typically experience reduced anxiety levels and improved functionality within the family system.
Ziggy is a Cavapoo puppy who is in training to become a therapy dog. Therapy dogs can be a great addition to the therapeutic process as they can increase an individual’s ability to regulate emotional arousal. Research has shown that therapy dogs decrease symptoms of anxiety and depression, reduce stress levels, and increase adapting cognitions. Additionally, therapy dogs are exceptional social catalysts. They encourage the development of social skills, increase empathy within interpersonal skills, and heighten awareness of nonverbal social cues.
If you are interested in having Ziggy attend your therapy session please let us know.
